POMPEÏ

Pompeii is a series that has endured in
my work for twenty years. It is based on a fairly simple ritual. At the beginning of my career as a painter I had gotten into the habit of burning work that cluttered my mind and the space of my studio.
This passage through fire symbolized the
renewal of my work, a new time of creation. Over the years I wanted to experience a new process in my approach, a binding exercise based on the action of tearing the existing material from old canvases, keeping what could
not be removed and from there emergences that appear. suddenly, accidentally, reinvest the painting.
The strength of the past, the history of the
earlier moment of creation thus come to exist in the present.
